The Russian Hatch Bi-Fold is crafted from the famous Russian leather by the prestigious tannery J&FJ Baker, England. This tannery is Britain's last oak bark tannery. This bifold wallet is the epitome of luxury and timeless craftsmanship. Russian Leather was lost to history until the 1970s where a shipwreck was discovered containing intact Russian Leather stamped 1786. The Ship Metta Catharina was sailing from St Petersburg where it was caught in a storm, the crew went to shore and the ship broke free of it's anchor and sank of the coast of Devon in the Plymouth Sound. This leather was considered a luxury to Europe. Unique to Russian Leather is a unique tanning mixture of different barks including birch that gives it it's aroma. The result is a leather that is very durable. J&FJ Baker spend years studying the leather to replicate the original Russian Leather.
